Frequently Asked Questions

My company has never imported. Where do I start?
The first step is to enable your company in Radar Siscomex, the registry that authorizes acting in foreign trade. From there, aspects such as the tax classification of products, the most appropriate import regime, and the logistics structure of the operation are defined. TCW accompanies the company from this initial stage, guiding each decision so that the first import happens safely and without surprises.
What is Radar Siscomex and does my company need it?
Radar is the qualification that allows a company to import and export in Brazil. Without it, it is impossible to operate. There are three modalities, defined by the Federal Revenue Service according to the company's financial capacity:
  • - Express — for operations up to US$ 50,000 per semester. Recommended for beginners.
  • - Limited — for operations up to US$ 150,000 per semester.
  • - Unlimited — no value ceiling, for companies with higher volume, upon proof of financial capacity.
TCW guides you in choosing and obtaining the appropriate modality for each company's profile.
What taxes apply to an import?
Different taxes can apply all at once to an import operation:
  • II — Import Tax
  • IPI — Tax on Industrialized Products
  • PIS-Import and COFINS-Import
  • ICMS — state tax on the operation
Each is calculated on a specific basis, involving the value of the goods, freight, insurance, and the tax classification of the product. It is one of the most complex calculations in foreign trade — and an error can result in overpaid taxes. TCW performs this calculation in advance so you know the real cost before operating.
What is customs clearance?
Customs clearance is the mandatory procedure every cargo must undergo to enter or leave the country. During this process, the Federal Revenue and consenting agencies verify documentation, check taxes, and authorize cargo release. A well-conducted clearance prevents delays, extra storage costs, and penalties. It is one of TCW’s core services.
What is tax classification (NCM) and why does it matter so much?
The NCM (Mercosur Common Nomenclature) is the code that identifies each good and determines its tax rates, along with potential license requirements. Incorrect classification can lead to overpaid taxes, fines, or cargo retention. Therefore, the correct tax classification is one of the most critical stages of any operation — and TCW treats this point with the rigor it demands.
Does TCW handle the entire process or just a part of it?
TCW handles the operation from end to end: consulting, international freight, customs clearance, and integrated logistics, all under one responsibility. This is a concrete advantage: when freight and clearance are managed by the same company, a potential issue is identified at the origin — not when the cargo is already generating costs at the destination.
How does the first contact and quotation work?
Simply contact us through our channels — phone, email, or WhatsApp. With some basic information about your needs (product type, origin or destination, estimated volume), the TCW team will evaluate the scenario and present the best solutions for your operation. The first step is a conversation.
